The naturopaths are coming! A digest of my talk at NECSS 2017

Naturopaths are fully committed to tricking lawmakers and the public that their profession is not quackery. But the licensing of these fake doctors does not have to be inevitable. Let's work together to make our voices heard and stop the legalization of this pseudoscience.

New York state of mind and naturopathic nonsense

On June 30th, I'll be speaking at NECSS in New York City. Naturopaths are trying hard to get licensed in New York state, so I thought I'd give a primer on the current situation.

Massachusetts Should Reject Naturopaths: Letter to Gov. Charlie Baker

I learned late last week that the Massachusetts legislature passed the latest installment of the naturopathic licensing bill S.2335 in the final minutes of the 2016 legislative session. The bill is currently sitting on Governor Charlie Baker’s desk. He has a few days to sign the bill, which would make...

A question off the naturopathic licensing exam (NPLEX)

Naturopaths often mention that their licensing exam, the NPLEX, is a rigorous test of medical knowledge that ensures standards of care. This point always looks good to the unsuspecting. Consider the following sample from the 2013 official study guide for the NPLEX:

NUHS: an unlawful but accredited naturopathic program?

There are seven naturopathic programs that are accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education. Graduates of these programs are eligible to become licensed naturopaths in 20 U.S. states or territories and five Canadian provinces. Six of the accredited naturopathic programs are in U.S. states or Canadian provinces that license naturopaths as...

Ozone therapy in naturopathic medicine

Tomorrow, Monday May 23, 2016, licensed naturopaths and their students will “storm” the offices of lawmakers to lobby for naturopathic medicine. This day will mark the culmination of the annual naturopathic lobbying event called D.C. Federal Legislative Initiative (DC FLI) organized by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Yesterday, I...

Fact-checking naturopathic talking points at DCFLI

Every year, naturopathic students and practitioners go to Washington D.C. to lobby for naturopathic medicine during an event called the DC Federal Legislative Initiative, DCFLI for short. The event is organized by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP). I participated in DCFLI, five years ago today, weeks away from...

California lawmakers should reject naturopathic doctors

A little bird told me that California naturopathic “doctors” and their supporters are holding a meeting in Sacramento on March 9, 2016 to educate state lawmakers about naturopathic medicine in order to secure support for a stalled bill, S.B. 538, that would, in my opinion, dangerously expand their scope of...

Naturopathic “doctors” in Massachusetts

This year naturopathic “doctors” are trying for the 11th time to gain licensure in Massachusetts. Ahead of a public hearing tomorrow, November 17th, on a pair of naturopathic licensing bills (S1205 and H1992) in front of the Joint Committee on Public Health, I think it is important to provide lawmakers and...

New Leaked AANP “Support” for CDC Vaccine Schedule is Probably a Marketing Ploy for Political Gain

You don’t know me, and I want to keep myself anonymous because I am still in practice and have a presence in the naturopathic profession. I received an anonymous email this morning from a naturopath who currently sits on the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), House of Delegates (HOD)....

Defamation Case Update

In 2017, I was sued in Germany for defamation by an American naturopath who treats cancer patients with intravenous baking soda and vitamin C.  In 2018, the German court ruled entirely in my favor. The deadline to appeal the court’s decision has passed, and I have won the case outright. To read more about the legal case, please see this blog post.

My legal costs were covered by an international fundraiser organized by Australian Skeptics, Inc. For information about this past fundraising campaign, please visit the ASI website.

An update on the remaining funds is coming. Stay tuned!
