A toddler dies from meningitis, governments need to block naturopathic pediatrics

You are probably aware of Ezekiel Stephan, a 19 month old boy, who died in 2012, after his parents chose home remedies and naturopathy for the treatment of viral bacterial meningitis. The parents currently are on trial in Canada for failing to provide the necessities of life. Over the course of...

Is your naturopathic “doctor” talking about you on the Internet?

I was not going to write about the recent “Naturopathic Chat” forum leak. But then, while having dinner tonight, I had a dark thought: What if my hypothetical naturopath (or real doctor) were talking about me, my medical history, family, and other personally identifiable information in a web forum with a readership of 3,300 members? And what...

The “pH Miracle Diet” naturopath is guilty, but California still has a problem

Robert O. Young, a naturopath in California who ran a luxury medical clinic, was found guilty of two counts of practicing medicine without a license. While this news marks an end to the saga of Young’s spree of quackery and precarious trial, during which the jury was nearly hung and ordered by...

Confessions of a former naturopathic patient: I am not getting better and it is not my fault

In February 2012, I was twenty-eight years old and had been living with a diagnosis of endometriosis for over a year. I’d had a miscarriage a few months before my diagnosis but was unable to conceive again. Birth control pills and then Lupron Depot, a drug that mimics menopause, hadn’t helped control my increasing...

Naturopath lets her kids suffer with Whooping cough, child abuse?

I was not planning on writing today. But then I read a blog post about naturopathic “cures” for Whooping cough, and I got mad. There must have been significant backlash, as the post has been taken down from www.LikeMindedMamas.com and the group’s Facebook page, Like-Minded Mamas. I took a screenshot...

CTCA: The Cancer Treatment Charade of America? Profiting on Alternative Medicine

Britt’s note: This week’s post is from a former employee of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. After witnessing cancer care that seemed to him to be based purely on profit, the author left CTCA. Today the author is speaking out in order to provide an inside look at CTCA’s business...

The Morality of Practicing Medicine and the Licensed Naturopath

The “care” aspect of patient care can be challenging for doctors. This is especially true in the face of uncertainty like with chronic or idiopathic diseases. Patients tend to want to know why they are ill. (I know I did.) When patients feel questions are not sufficiently addressed by medical...

Patients of Naturopathic Medicine

During my time practicing as a naturopath, I witnessed patients needlessly suffer physically, emotionally, and financially. Patients need to know that naturopaths undergo extremely poor medical training.

Legal Defense Fund

In 2017, I was sued in Germany for defamation by an American naturopath who treats cancer patients with intravenous baking soda and vitamin C.  In 2018, the German court ruled entirely in my favor. The deadline to appeal the court’s decision has passed, and I have won the case outright. My legal costs were supported through an international fundraising effort organized by Australian Skeptics, Inc.

To read more about the legal case, please see this blog post. To learn more about the fundraising campaign, please visit the ASI website.
