Scope of practice

The scope of practice for naturopaths in B.C. is very broad. Their scope is defined in the 2008 regulation act, link below.

Standards of practice for registered naturopaths in B.C.

Title: May use the titles “doctor” and “physician”

Prescription drugs: Permitted if registrant holds certification for prescriptive authority

IV administration: Permitted

Diagnostic tests: Permitted

Minor office procedures: Permitted

Spinal manipulations: Permitted

Childbirth/ midwifery: Not defined

Vaccine waiver: Not defined


History

The naturopathic physicians regulation was passed in 2008.

Naturopaths are regulated by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia. Complaints can filed through their website.
